FSCA16xx & Ubuntu 8.10

One week from the official release and Ubuntu 8.10 support was added to the fsca16xx script.

One bump though:
Currently there is a bug and yet another bug in Ubuntu 8.10 that causes it to load 2 different drivers (ath_pci && ath5k) for the Atheros wireless adapter. This causes the wireless not to work.

The script update does not handle this as it affects most of the people that use a wireless Atheros adapter and not just FSC laptops. It should be delt with by the Ubuntu Kernel team.

Are you sure you have an Atheros card? as far as I know li1718 usually have a Broadcom...

Anyway it was solved in the final release by transferring ath5k into an optional package which you can easily install.

Sorry to draw attention to my problems, but can you please describe once again the installing sequence ?

I'm completely newbie in linux !!!

I have Amilo 1650g and fresh Ubuntu 8.10. Did (i believe) everything the previous post says, but so far.. no success.

Can you please describe with commands, paths and file names ?

1. lets do this manually, without my script :)
2. open a terminal: programs -> accessories -> terminal
3. run the following command: sudo modprobe acerhk force_series=5020 autowlan=1
4. enter your password when asked.
5. thats about it :)
